T20 World Cup 2026: India Pile Up 255/5 in Final Against New Zealand

India produced a powerful batting performance to score 255/5 in 20 overs in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

After New Zealand chose to bowl first, India’s top order attacked from the start and kept the run rate high throughout the innings.

Openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma gave India a strong start with aggressive batting in the powerplay.

After the opening stand, Ishan Kishan continued the attack with 54 runs from 25 balls.

However, New Zealand briefly fought back when Neesham took important wickets in a single over, removing Samson, Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav, who was out for 0. 

Hardik Pandya also fell for 18 runs, but India’s scoring rate remained high.

In the final overs, Tilak Varma stayed unbeaten on 8 from 6 balls while Shivam Dube added 26 from just 8 balls to push the total past 250. India finished the innings at 255/5 after 20 overs, with 8 extras.

India booked their place in the final after defeating India in the semifinal, while New Zealand secured their spot by overcoming South Africa.

India’s explosive batting has set New Zealand a very challenging target in the World Cup final. Surrounded by a sea of blue, New Zealand will bat next as they chase 256 for the title.
