India booked their place in the T20 World Cup final after a hard-fought seven-run victory over England in a high-scoring semi-final on Friday.
Batting first, India put up a commanding total of 253-7, marking the first time England has conceded more than 250 runs in a T20 international.
India’s innings combined aggressive stroke play with calculated partnerships – with Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan who helped set a challenging total. England, tasked with chasing a steep total, responded strongly, with Jacob Bethell producing a remarkable innings of 105 from 48 balls.
Bethell built a crucial 77-run partnership with Will Jacks, who added 35 from 20 balls. Their effort brought England back into contention after losing early wickets, leaving them with 82 runs needed from the final six overs.
However, India’s bowlers tightened their grip at a critical stage and restricted England’s scoring opportunities in the final overs, managing to defend their total.
India will go head to head with New Zealand on March 8 2026, after the latter beat South Africa in an earlier match, for the T20 World Cup finale at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India.
India’s composure under pressure reinforced their status as one of the tournament’s strongest sides. A win in this World Cup would secure back-to-back T20 titles for the team.
