In a surprise announcement, Mr Rajakumar Chandra – owner of the Jothi Store Group and Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) vice-chairman – made known his decision to contest for the SICCI chairmanship.

“I did not make this decision lightly,” said Mr Rajakumar during his speech on stage at the launch event for the Tekka.sg online platform on April 18.

He first joined SICCI as a member, and through the organisation’s SME Centre has supported around 2,800 Indian small to medium enterprises each year with business advisories and grant applications.

“Too many good businesses, businesses with 40 to 50 years of heritage, are invisible in the digital age,” the former chairman of the Little India Shopowners’ and Heritage Association (LISHA) explained.

If elected, Mr Rajakumar stated that he will use his position to increase the Indian business community’s digital presence.
