Trump says he will visit India as frosty relationship with Modi thaws

United States President Donald Trump has pledged to visit India in the future following talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France, signalling improving ties between the two countries.

Mr Trump said Washington and New Delhi were close to finalising a trade agreement.

The leaders also discussed the safety of Indian sailors in the Strait of Hormuz and ongoing trade negotiations amid recent tariff-related tensions.

Telegram blocked over exam fraud concerns

The Indian government has temporarily blocked access to Telegram until June 22, citing concerns that the messaging platform was being used to facilitate cheating and fraud linked to medical entrance examinations.

The move follows the NEET paper leak controversy that forced the cancellation of a major undergraduate entrance test. The restriction was imposed under provisions of India’s IT laws aimed at protecting national interests.

Indian crew of MT Jalaveer return home safely

All 20 Indian crew members of the Guinea-Bissau-flagged MT Jalaveer have safely returned home after being rescued following an attack off the Oman coast.

The Indian Embassy in Muscat facilitated their repatriation and thanked Omani authorities for their assistance. The vessel was the third merchant ship carrying Indian sailors to come under attack in the region within days.

Cockroach party founder slapped at Jaipur protest

Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke was allegedly slapped during a protest in Jaipur over examination irregularities and unemployment. The incident occurred while supporters were carrying him on their shoulders, reported NDTV.

Two youths were detained by police.

Dipke described the attack as an act of cowardice and vowed to continue raising concerns over alleged examination scandals.

Rules tightened on cough syrup sales

The Central government has restricted cough syrup sales to licensed pharmacies following contamination-linked child deaths reported in 2025.

The government has removed cough syrups from a list of medicines that could previously be sold under relaxed rules by small retailers.

Pollution notice issued to Tata iPhone supplier plant

A Tamil Nadu pollution regulator has accused a Tata Electronics facility supplying Apple of contaminating groundwater near agricultural land in Hosur.

Investigations found wastewater allegedly overflowed from a harvesting pond into nearby wells, reported Reuters.

The regulator warned the company could face closure unless it provides a satisfactory explanation and implements corrective measures. Tata has yet to publicly respond.

Five killed in Air Force plane crash in Assam

Five Indian Air Force personnel were killed when an AN-32 transport aircraft crashed while attempting to land at Jorhat in Assam on June 13. An air force official said the co-pilot survived.

The aircraft was on a routine sortie when the accident occurred. A court of inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause of the crash.

TVK leader demands apology from Stalin

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader Aadhav Arjuna has issued a legal notice to former Tamil Nadu chief minister M.K. Stalin and the DMK’s IT wing, demanding a public apology over allegations linking him to a drug smuggling case.

Mr Arjuna has also sought Rs1 crore (S$140,000) in compensation, claiming the accusations damaged his reputation and caused mental distress.

Confusion over TMC rebels’ merger plan

Confusion has emerged over reports that rebel Trinamool Congress MPs plan to merge with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI).

While dissident leaders claimed the merger was progressing and announced a new party president, NCPI leaders said they had not received formal communication, reported the Hindustan Times.

Gangster linked to AP Dhillon attack faces deportation to India

Canadian authorities have cleared the deportation of Abjeet Kingra, a Lawrence Bishnoi gang member accused of involvement in a 2024 shooting outside singer AP Dhillon’s home in Canada.

Kingra, who is serving a six-year sentence, argued he would face danger if returned to India. Immigration officials rejected the claim, paving the way for his deportation.
