Watching Shreya Ghoshal perform live in Singapore has become something of a tradition for many fans. But at her sold-out The Unstoppable Tour concert at The Star Theatre on July 25, the Indian playback superstar showcased a strikingly refreshed stage persona that elevated an already exceptional live act.
Performing before nearly 5,000 fans, Shreya looked slimmer, moved effortlessly across the stage, danced with infectious energy and maintained a constant rapport with the audience throughout the 210-minute musical spectacle.
Yet, one thing remained unchanged – her extraordinary voice.
Whether she was delivering soulful romantic favourites such as Teri Ore, Shukran Allah, Saibo and Manwa Laage, or raising the tempo with crowd-pleasers including Ghoomar, Deewani Mastani, Radha, Chikni Chameli and Mere Dholna, every note was delivered with remarkable precision and emotion.
Backed by a superb live orchestra featuring standout flautist Rajeev Prasanna and violinist Shruthi Bhave, together with contemporary arrangements, immersive LED visuals and spectacular lighting, the production transformed every song into a cinematic experience.
More impressive than the lavish staging, however, was Shreya’s ability to make a packed theatre feel intimate. She laughed with the audience, encouraged singalongs and effortlessly balanced technical brilliance with genuine warmth.
Singapore event organiser Anu Samtani, founder of Action Replay, described it as one of the finest concerts she has attended.
“My husband and I attended the Singapore show with the usual expectation of a Bollywood concert, and we were blown away,” she said.
“The second half of the show was the highlight for us. She brought out so much emotion and nostalgia with her set list that we could not take our eyes off her performance.
“As an event organiser myself, I have seen very few artistes with Shreya’s energy. What really stood out compared with her previous concerts was her incredible connection with the audience. She has inspired so many people while reminding us to stay grounded and humble. In short, the concert was memorable, mesmerising and therapeutic.”
Performing artiste Savant Raj from MusicMinds Singapore praised both the musical and visual production.
“Shreya Ghoshal delivered an absolute extravaganza, bringing Bollywood’s ultimate vocal diva to a grand, Hollywood-scale stage. The energy was electric, driven by stunning choreography and an insanely talented orchestra,” he said.
“The breathtaking visual production transformed every song into a mesmerising audiovisual experience. Honestly, if the organisers had given the audience just a little more freedom, they would have turned The Star Theatre completely upside down in pure ecstasy.”
For fans who had watched Ghoshal perform in Singapore before, this tour marked an evolution rather than a repeat performance. While nostalgia still filled the set list, it was her renewed energy, effortless audience engagement and flawless vocals that made The Unstoppable Tour live up to its name.
More than two decades into an extraordinary career, Shreya Ghoshal continues to evolve – proving once again why she remains not only one of India’s greatest playback singers, but also one of its finest live performers.
