DTL train service resumes between Bukit Panjang and Beauty World after disruption

In a Facebook post at 6.34am on Aug 28, SBS Transit said the Downtown Line (DTL) service was down between Bukit Panjang and Beauty World stations and that bridging buses had been activated. This is the fourth train disruption to occur in August.

MRT service on the DTL has since resumed between Bukit Panjang and Beauty World as an earlier signalling fault has been fixed. Free regular and bridging bus services have also ceased, the transport operator said in a Facebook post at 8.10am on Aug 28.

Fire breaks out in Redhill flat; 4 people taken to hospital and 50 evacuated

Four people were taken to the hospital following a fire that broke out in a Redhill flat in the wee hours of Aug 28. In a Facebook post on the same day, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it responded to a fire at Block 68 Redhill Close at 1.15am.

The fire was confined to the living room, SCDF noted. About 50 people from the affected block were also evacuated by the police as a precautionary measure. Preliminary findings show that the cause of the fire is likely from an electrical origin in the living room, said SCDF.

Mild earthquake strikes in Johor for the third time in three days

A mild earthquake with a magnitude of 3.2 struck Segamat District in Johor on the morning of Aug 27, with tremors felt in parts of the southern Malaysian state and southern Pahang. The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said in a Facebook post that the earthquake was recorded 18km south of Segamat at 8.59am.

Segamat is about 180km from Singapore. The Aug 27 earthquake comes three days after two mild ones were recorded in Johor. Tremors for both earthquakes on Aug 24 were felt in parts of Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and southern Pahang.

121 summonses issued across 3 days against errant commercial vehicle drivers

A total of 121 summonses were issued to errant drivers of commercial vehicles during a three-day islandwide enforcement blitz from Aug 18 to 20. In a statement on Aug 28, the police said that a total of 166 commercial vehicles were stopped for checks by the Traffic Police and the Land Transport Authority during this period.

The summonses are for traffic offences such as speeding, using mobile devices while driving, failing to keep left, failing to properly secure load on a vehicle, and failing to display a speed limiter label visibly at the top right portion of the front windscreen.

NEA investigating after water in Yishun Close canal turns green

The National Environment Agency (NEA) is investigating after water in a canal in Yishun Close turned green. Nee Soon GRC MP Jackson Lam said on Aug 26 that he checked with NEA after some residents noticed the discolouration. Photos he shared in a Facebook post that evening showed the discoloured water in a stretch of the canal.

Mr Lam said that the agency’s officers have traced the affected canal through surveillance and inspections and identified a potential source of the discolouration. Investigations are ongoing.
