Venezuelans in Singapore are feeling a mix of relief and uncertainty after U.S. forces captured President Nicolás Maduro in a military operation aimed at bringing him to face charges in New York.

Mr Martin, a Venezuelan now in Singapore, said he was “very anxious, very worried” for his family when he first heard the news, but added, “It was a relief to hear that (they were well).” Angela Torres of the Latin American Chamber of Commerce said, “there is still a lot of fear, a lot of uncertainty.” Within the local Hispanic community, there’s cautious optimism that Maduro’s removal could eventually lead to positive change, given Venezuela’s past wealth and oil-based economy.

However, many remain fearful as Maduro’s regime structures still persist, and there’s talk of further actions against loyalists. Venezuelans here and abroad say they will watch developments closely before fully embracing hope for the country’s future.
