3 men fined for taunting cop at murder scene near Kitchener Road
Three men pleaded guilty to using insulting words towards a police officer who did not let them pass through a police cordon at a murder scene near Kitchener Road. Alex Kumar Gnanasekaran, 38, was fined S$4,000, while Md Dino Marciano Abdul Wahab, 45, and Md Eusof Mohamed Yahiya, 33, were each handed a S$5,000 fine on Oct 28.
Alex hurled vulgarities at the officer, telling the cop: “We are paying tax” and “I can show you 100 per cent gangster”. All three men were expressionless as the video of them taunting and laughing at the officer was played in court.
S’pore employment growth more than doubles in 3rd quarter, retrenchments stay stable
Singapore’s total employment in the July to September period grew by 24,800, more than doubling from the increase of 10,400 in the second quarter, according to preliminary labour market data released on Oct 30. Employment growth was stronger than anticipated, said the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), with the pickup in growth coming from residents, Singaporeans, permanent residents, and non-residents.
The number of retrenchments in the third quarter was 3,500. These retrenchment figures decreased or remained stable across sectors, with corporate restructuring as the primary reason for retrenchments, said MOM.

27 Singaporeans, 7 Malaysians wanted for suspected links to Cambodia scam ring
Warrants of arrest have been issued against 27 Singaporeans and seven Malaysians suspected of being involved in a scam ring operating in Cambodia. The group was believed to be operating from a scam compound in Phnom Penh and is allegedly responsible for 438 cases involving losses of at least $41 million.
The 34 suspects are currently out of Singapore, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said in a statement on Oct 29, adding that it is working with its international counterparts to locate and arrest them.
Motorcyclist caught at Tuas Checkpoint after allegedly trying to smuggle in kratom liquid
A 37-year-old motorcyclist was caught at Tuas Checkpoint after he allegedly attempted to smuggle liquid believed to be kratom into Singapore on Oct 14. Kratom contains mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine, which are both listed as Class A controlled drugs in Singapore.
The case has been referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau for further investigations after the Immigrations and Checkpoints Authority officers found a bottle containing liquid suspected to be kratom in the man’s bag.
Thailand issues health warning on batch of Hong Thai herbal inhalers
Samples of the Hong Thai Herbal Inhaler, Formula 2, registration number G 309/62, produced by Hong Thai Panich, were collected for laboratory analysis by the Department of Medical Sciences.
It revealed that the product failed to meet quality standards under the test for microbial contamination and the detection of Clostridium spp bacteria. The manufacturer of the herbal inhaler later announced the recall of Lot 000332, produced on Dec 9, 2024, with expiry date of Dec 8, 2027. The recall affects 200,000 units.
