Pritam’s conviction has implications for some, Leader of the House Indranee Rajah says

Workers’ Party chief Pritam Singh’s conviction has implications for party leaders Sylvia Lim and Faisal Manap, which will be part of upcoming discussions in Parliament, said Leader of the House Indranee Rajah. All three WP MPs had disputed the findings of a 2022 report by the Committee of Privileges regarding their involvement in former MP Raeesah Khan’s lies to the House, hence Parliament had postponed making a decision then, she noted in a statement on Dec 22. 

Now that Mr Singh’s court case has concluded and he has been found guilty of lying, these matters will be raised for discussion in January, she said.

Elderly man killed, driver arrested after accident in Bukit Batok

A 61-year-old motorist has been arrested after an accident in Bukit Batok on Dec 22 that killed an elderly pedestrian.

The police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to an accident involving a car and a pedestrian in Bukit Batok West Avenue 9 at about 5pm on Dec 22. The authorities said a 79-year-old male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.

Singaporeans visiting S. Korea can now skip immigration lines

Singaporeans can now skip immigration queues at South Korea airports following the expansion of the country’s automated immigration clearance system.

In a Facebook post on Dec 23, the Singapore Embassy in Seoul said the smart entry service auto-gate system has been available to Singaporeans aged 17 and above entering and leaving South Korea since Dec 1. Travellers are required to complete a one-time on-site registration upon arrival at Incheon International Airport.

Broadway hit Beetlejuice The Musical cancels 2026 Singapore run

Eight-time Tony Award-nominated Beetlejuice The Musical has been abruptly cancelled less than a month before its run was due to begin at the Esplanade Theatre in January.

Ticket holders to the musical comedy, which was scheduled for a month-long run beginning on Jan 15, received an e-mail from ticketing company Ticketek Singapore at 11.30am on Dec 22 announcing the cancellation. Customers were devastated by the news and disappointed by the lack of a proper explanation for the cancellation.

‘Great gentleman’: Former Singapore national footballer D. Tokijan dies, aged 62

The left-winger who represented Singapore from 1983 to 1992, including at the 1984 Asian Cup on home soil, had been battling cancer. Expressing sadness at his death, the Football Association of Singapore said, “our heartfelt condolences go out to his friends and family during this difficult time”.

Tokijan was also a key member of Singapore’s Malaysian League-winning squad in 1985. In that season, he scored 13 league goals to finish as their top scorer.

MINDEF deputy secretary to take over as National Arts Council CEO

The National Arts Council (NAC) will welcome a new chief executive officer, Mrs Elaine Ng, on March 1, 2026. She will succeed Mr Low Eng Teong, who has served as the organisation’s chief since 2023 and will step down on Feb 28, 2026, said the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) on Dec 23.

Mrs Ng will first be appointed as CEO (Designate) from Jan 1, 2026. She is currently the deputy secretary (administration) at the Ministry of Defence, an appointment she has held since November 2019.
