A Myanmar national aged 23 who is also a Singapore Permanent Resident is due to be charged in court on July 29 for providing money for terrorist purposes, according to a Ministry of Home Affairs statement on July 28.
The Internal Security Department initiated investigations against the man after his extremist postings came to the authorities’ attention, the statement said.
ISD’s investigations found that the man was radicalised after consuming extremist content online.
ISD’s investigations revealed that, in August 2024, the man transferred funds to an overseas-based user who claimed to be soliciting donations online to purchase military equipment, which he believed was for the purpose of facilitating a terrorist act in Gaza City.
A parallel investigation by the Commercial Affairs Department found that the man transferred US$72.28 and attempted to transfer an additional US$1 to PayPal accounts designated by the “X” user, to facilitate terrorist acts in Gaza City. The Straits Times
