Certificate of entitlement (COE) prices rose across the board, setting records in the big car and Open categories in the latest tender exercise that closed on Thursday.

COE prices hit new highs for big cars, Open category

The COE premium for cars with engines larger than 1,600cc or more power than 130bhp, as well as electric vehicles (EVs) with a power output of more than 110 kilowatts, ended at $126,889 – nearly 4.9 per cent above the previous high of $121,000 recorded in June.

The premium for the Open category reached $126,201, which was 3.35 per cent higher than the $122,110 posted at the previous tender exercise, and nearly 1 per cent higher than the record of $125,000 from May.

Public housing schemes to be adjusted, help for older workers

Public housing schemes will be adjusted to keep them fair and inclusive for all, and ensure flats remain accessible and affordable for Singaporeans of all income groups.

There will also be extra help for some older workers who have not built up enough Central Provident Fund savings for retirement, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Tuesday.

He added that he will share more on these two areas at the National Day Rally on Aug 20.

New Covid-19 subvariant accounts for 18% of recent community cases

About 18 per cent of all community cases of Covid-19 detected in recent weeks are of the new EG.5 Omicron subvariant, the Ministry of Health said on Tuesday.

It added that the number of Covid-19 cases in hospital or the intensive care unit has remained stable.

The first case was detected on May 5.

Mum convicted after attacking CMPB officer for serving order on son

When her son Kavinsarang Shin failed to report for national service on April 23, 2021, three Central Manpower Base (CMPB) enlistment inspectors went to K. Santhi A. Krishnasamy’s home.

They served an order for her son to report to the CMPB three days later, to assist in investigations into an offence under the Enlistment Act.

Insisting that they revoke the order, Santhi grabbed the wrist of one of the inspectors, causing her to suffer abrasions on her arm and a shoulder injury.

Santhi was convicted of charges related to this on July 3. On Monday, she appeared in court, and she is to be sentenced on Aug 25.

Minister Edwin Tong has angioplasty, stent put in to fix blocked artery

Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Edwin Tong underwent a medical procedure on Tuesday to fix a blocked coronary artery, a major artery that supplies blood to the heart.

In a Facebook post, Mr Tong, 53, said his doctors had discovered the artery to be severely blocked during a routine health check.

He added that he would recuperate, take things a little slower, and work from home as much as possible before getting back to his usual routine.

Man’s body discovered in a car in Upper Changi days after his death

A 34-year-old man’s body was discovered in a car in Upper Changi on Monday, days after he is believed to have died.

The police said they were alerted to a case of unnatural death in Sunbird Road at about 7.45am.

Chinese newspaper Shin Min Daily News reported that the body was suspected to have been in the car at a carpark near apartment complex Apollo Gardens in Upper Changi Road a week before it was found on Monday.

Based on preliminary investigations, the police do not suspect foul play.
