Man charged with attempted murder after Pasir Ris slashing
A 61-year-old man was charged on Dec 21 with the attempted murder of a 46-year-old man at Pasir Ris West Plaza.
According to court documents, Loh Chye Hoe allegedly used a cleaver to slash Mr Wong Tai Huong, 46, a few times on Dec 20 at around 4.50pm.
The police said four people, including Loh, were hurt. They were taken to Sengkang General Hospital. Loh was charged on Dec 21 in hospital.
The police said Loh was known to the victims, and their investigations showed they were not on friendly terms.
Traffic cop accused of illegally sharing info about police report
A traffic police officer was charged on Dec 20 over the illegal sharing of information about a police report. Shivasuria Maniam Kesaval, 26, was also charged with intending to obtain information illegally on various Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) systems on multiple occasions.
According to court documents, Shivasuria, in his position as a Traffic Police investigation officer, obtained the “incident creation time” of a police report and illegally shared it with Brayden Ong Ying Shan. Shivasuria had also allegedly performed multiple searches on various MHA systems in order to illegally obtain data from them.
All contra-flow lanes at Johor checkpoints open for Christmas and New Year
Contra-flow lanes at the two land checkpoints in Johor will be activated in anticipation of a high volume of vehicles from Singapore during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Contra-flow lanes allow motorists to use lanes meant for the opposite direction. Dry runs were initiated in October to test these lanes to ease traffic congestion, and early signs showed major improvements to traffic flow.
Man admits swinging drunken friend to the ground outside club; victim died
Frustrated at his friend who was drunk outside a club, Jason Ong Bing Qi grabbed and swung her forcefully to the ground, and left her lying there motionless.
With the help of passers-by, the woman managed to return home, where she was pronounced dead later that day. An autopsy revealed that she had suffered injuries, including a fractured skull and bruised brain.
On Dec 19, Ong, 33, pleaded guilty to one charge of voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
COE premiums fall across the board in last tender of 2023
Certificate of entitlement (COE) prices ended lower across the board at the last tender of 2023. At the close of bidding at 4pm on Dec 20, the premium for Category B COEs, which are for bigger, more powerful models, ended at $110,001 – chalking up the biggest drop of 15.4 per cent.
The premium for Open category COEs closed 11.2 per cent lower at $118,388. This category of COEs can be used for any vehicle type except motorcycles, but ends up almost exclusively for bigger cars. The COE premium for Category A – for smaller cars – finished at $85,000, or 3.4 per cent lower than in the previous tender.
Japanese restaurant in Tanjong Pagar suspended for 2 weeks, fined over lapses
Japanese restaurant Teppan Kappou Kenji has been suspended for two weeks after accumulating 12 demerit points within a year.
The eatery, located on the first storey of 99 Tanjong Pagar Road, was also fined $800, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said. The points and fine were imposed after the restaurant committed two offences – failure to register an assistant and failure to keep licensed premises free of infestation.
In response to queries, the SFA said the restaurant had a cockroach infestation.
