The Ministry of Culture, Community & Youth (MCCY) and the Indian Heritage Centre (IHC) will launch renewed efforts to activate Little India as a vibrant cultural district.
As announced by Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth Dinesh Vasu Dash during his speech at the Committee of Supply debate, the Singapore Indian community and precinct stakeholders will be engaged in a visioning exercise in Q2 2026. This co-creation process aims to lay the foundation for precinct-wide programming and a long-term vision for IHC’s role as a key node for Singapore Indian culture.
IHC’s efforts will strengthen Little India as a cultural anchor and a vibrant precinct for all Singaporeans and international visitors to learn and appreciate the depth and traditions of Singapore Indian culture within the broader multicultural context.
“Our goal is to help Singaporeans and international visitors understand and appreciate Singaporean Indian cultures and customs,” he said.
This goes hand in hand with MCCY’s commitment to strengthen Singapore’s multicultural identity, which it plans to do by channeling $20m towards multicultural arts programmes over the next 5 years.
