Team Green Threads, the group of IGCSE 10 students representing GIIS SMART Campus, won Best Presenter at The Young Technopreneur Challenge 2023.
The event showcased the students’ talent, resilience and commitment in addressing real-world challenges through technology and entrepreneurship.
Anaya Shabi, Anwita Sethi, Kiana Kamdar and Kritika Tripathy of Team Green Threads embarked on a mission to combat textile waste through its project Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production.
They presented their innovative solution in revolutionising textile recycling and addressing Singapore’s growing waste problem, converting old textiles into functional chairs.
Through meticulous research and the development of a sustainable manufacturing process, the team demonstrated the viability of its concept by creating a prototype using repurposed clothes.
The team underwent training that equipped them with skills such as design thinking, app development and effective pitching techniques and transformed its idea into a practical business model through a collaboration with peers from other schools and brainstorming sessions.
The Challenge was appraised by South West CDC and Hewlett-Packard.
