The Bhagavad Gita is a text that has been read and studied over the centuries, by scholars everywhere.

Its appeal lies in its relevance to man, offering solutions to the difficult situations that can be applicable to anyone and not just a particular group or race.

Critical analysis and relentless investigation into truth have been the very essence of Hindu thought from Upanishadic times.

The International Gita Forum (IGF) too is an effort in this timeless sacred search for truth, based on Bhagavad Gita in the modern context. IGF is organised by Gita Jayanti Singapore, a sub-committee of the Hindu Endowments Board.

Gita Jayanti provides an avenue for Indian organisations in Singapore to work together harmoniously to celebrate one of the fundamental scriptures of Hinduism. It has also helped nurture a community of like-minded people who are keen to explore and understand the Bhagavad Gita.

Started in 1997, the single event of mass chanting of the Gita has over the last 25 years evolved into a year-long calendar of events attracting the interest of various age groups – chanting, oratorical, essay and art competitions, cultural programme Krishna Manjari, Gita Havan, monthly satsangs, seminars and forums.

A unique feature of the Gita Jayanti celebrations in Singapore is that they are spearheaded by a different organisation each year and supported by a core team.

The diversity of the organisations and Hindu temples that lead the Gita Jayanti cuts across the various linguistic and regional boundaries of the Indian community, united in the common goal of celebrating the Bhagavad Gita.

The Malwa Cultural Association is taking the lead role for the 26th edition this year.

Swami Sarvapriyananda, minister and spiritual leader of the Vedanta Society of New York, will once again deliver the lectures on self-empowerment from July 27 to 29. He will also conduct a special session for youth on July 29, guiding them on how to reach full potential. The sessions will be in English and entry is free.

The annual Gita Havan will take place on July 30, featuring a brief lecture by Swami Sarvapriyananda and the chanting of Gita slokas which devotees can join in.
