Police have booked five residents of Bommalapura village in Karnataka’s Chamarajanagar district for locking forest officials inside a tiger trap cage.
The villagers, angry over the department’s alleged failure to capture a tiger preying on their livestock, waylaid the Special Tiger Conservation Force team on Sept 9.
Officials, including deputy range officers, were forced out of their vehicle, confined in the cage, and threatened with violence.
The staff were rescued within minutes, but the police report noted the act has left personnel demoralised.
Police identified the accused as Raghu, Prasad, Deepu, Gangadhar Swamy, and Revanna.
