The 13th Annual Veethi Viruthu Vizha, a vibrant two-day cultural festival, was held on Jan 3 and 4 at Velammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Mogappair, Chennai.
Celebrating Tamil heritage, the event served as a powerful platform for reviving and promoting traditional South Indian folk arts.
Organised by the Alternative Media Centre, the festival brought together over 5,000 folk artistes and transformed the school grounds into a living canvas of tradition.
Performers showcased colourful and energetic folk forms such as Karagattam, Poikkal Kuthirai, Paraiattam, and Oyilattam, enthralling audiences of all ages.
The festival, which fosters cultural pride and supports the livelihoods of rural artists, was attended by dignitaries from the arts, education, and social sectors, reaffirming the importance of preserving Tamil Nadu’s rich folk legacy.
