A severe cold wave has gripped Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, but the freezing conditions are drawing tourists in large numbers to the famous Dal Lake.

There, visitors are seen wrapped in heavy winter clothing, enjoying the wintry charm, reported Reuters.

Tourist Nand Kishore Saini from Faridabad told ANI that, while he hoped to see a frozen Dal Lake, which has not occurred for the past three years, his family had already enjoyed snowfall in Sonamarg, a hill station located in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

He said the overall arrangements for tourists were good and described the Kashmir valley as “heaven”.

According to the India Meteorological Department, scattered to widespread rain and snowfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, are likely across Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand during the first week of February.

Heavy snowfall had earlier disrupted traffic on the Jammu–Srinagar highway.
