At least three people were killed as severe Cyclone Montha made landfall near Narasapuram, Andhra Pradesh, early on Oct 29, unleashing torrential rain and winds across coastal districts from Visakhapatnam to Tirupati.

Thousands of trees and power lines were uprooted, triggering blackouts, especially in East Godavari. Preliminary reports said crops over 4.4 lakh acres – including paddy, cotton, and maize – were destroyed.

Telangana also saw heavy rain and flooding, disrupting train services. Andhra Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu conducted an aerial survey and ordered free rations for affected families.

In Srikakulam, several areas were submerged as rivers swelled, while Telangana’s Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy placed districts on high alert.
