Climate activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk has called for a “win-win” outcome on Ladakh’s political demands, welcoming the Central government’s outreach for dialogue following his release from detention.
Speaking in Delhi on March 17, Mr Wangchuk said meaningful and trust-based engagement could mark a “new chapter” for Ladakh.
“A win is not enough — we need a win-win, even a win-win-win, where Ladakh, the government and larger causes all benefit,” he said.
Mr Wangchuk was detained on Sept 26 last year under the National Security Act, two days after violent protests during the agitation for the demand of statehood left four people dead in Ladakh. He was released on March 14.
While describing his detention as “painful”, he said he was willing to move forward.
