The Government of India announced the Padma Awards 2026 on the eve of Republic Day, honouring several iconic personalities from Indian cinema and the arts for their outstanding contributions.

Among the most notable names this year are Dharmendra, Mammootty, Satish Shah and R. Madhavan, whose work has left a lasting impact on Indian film and culture across generations.

Actor R. Madhavan, celebrated for his work across Hindi, Tamil, and international cinema, has also received the Padma Shri. Over the years, Madhavan has balanced commercial success with critically acclaimed performances, establishing himself as one of the most respected actors of his generation. Prior to this, he was also awarded with a national award for his film, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect.

Veteran Bollywood star Dharmendra has been conferred the Padma Vibhushan posthumously, recognising his extraordinary legacy and decades-long contribution to Hindi cinema. Fondly known as the “He-Man” of Bollywood, Dharmendra’s career spanned over six decades, during which he delivered numerous memorable performances.

Malayalam cinema legend Mammootty has been honoured with the Padma Bhushan for his remarkable body of work and artistic excellence. Widely regarded as one of India’s finest actors, Mammootty’s influence extends far beyond regional cinema, with critically acclaimed performances that have shaped contemporary Indian filmmaking.

Beloved actor Satish Shah, known for his impeccable comic timing and versatile roles in films and television, has been awarded the Padma Shri posthumously.

The Padma Awards, among India’s highest civilian honours, are given in three categories – Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri – to recognise exceptional service in various fields.

The 2026 list includes 131 awardees from diverse backgrounds, highlighting the nation’s commitment to celebrating excellence across arts, culture, public service, and social contribution. The formal award ceremony will be held later this year at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where the recipients will be felicitated by the President of India.
