Rajasthan’s famous Pushkar Camel Fair will add a Bollywood twist this year with a Lagaan-inspired cricket match between local Indians and foreign tourists on Nov 21.
The annual festival, combining livestock trading, Rajasthani folk culture and Hindu religious rituals, will run from Nov 17 to 24, attracting thousands of traders, pilgrims and tourists.
This year’s attractions include a first-ever 60km horse endurance race, featuring veterinary fitness checks, and a proposed camel-milking competition.
The cricket match will recreate the spirit of the Bollywood film, with locals wearing traditional dhotis and kurtas and foreigners dressed in cricket whites.
Other highlights include camel beauty contests, folk dances, moustache competitions, turban-tying contests and Bollywood performances.
The festival culminates with pilgrims taking holy dips in Pushkar Lake during Kartik Purnima, the sacred full-moon celebration.
