The 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on Sept 12 and 13 will mark the grouping’s 20th anniversary while testing India’s ability to balance competing geopolitical interests.
Hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Bharat Mandapam, the summit comes as the expanded grouping seeks to consolidate its growing influence as a voice of the Global South.
Discussions are expected to cover local-currency trade, resilient supply chains, digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, green energy and reforms to institutions such as the UN, IMF and World Bank.
For India, the meeting carries particular diplomatic significance as it seeks to maintain strong relations with Russia and manage ties with China while deepening engagement with Western countries.
The presence of leaders including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping will add geopolitical weight to discussions amid global conflicts, sanctions, and trade disruptions.
