After a 12-day suspension, the iconic Beating Retreat ceremony resumed on Tuesday at the India-Pakistan Attari-Wagah border.

The ceremony, held without public attendance and media-only access, featured no handshake between India’s Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and Pakistani Rangers.

The international gates also remained closed during the flag-lowering ritual.

The ceremony usually starts every evening immediately before sunset with a blustering parade by the soldiers from both sides, and ends with the perfectly coordinated lowering of the two nations’ flags.

The BSF on May 8 had stopped public entry for this event, after India’s military action against Pakistan, following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives.
