Two Jaipur cops suspended over Karni Sena chief murder

A station house officer and a constable were suspended for neglecting their duties on Wednesday, following the murder of the national president of the Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi in Jaipur a day earlier.

The political leader was shot dead by unidentified assailants.

The murder sparked outrage among the Rajput community, who marched in protest on Wednesday. The Rajasthan Police are hunting for two men they say were involved in the killing.

DMK MP apologises in Lok Sabha after remark sparks row

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP who sparked controversy by saying that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) can win elections only in the northern states and not in south India has apologised.

Mr D.N.V. Senthilkumar returned to the Lower House of Parliament on Wednesday and expressed regret over his remarks.

“If my statement inadvertently hurt the sentiments of the members and sections of the people, I would like to withdraw it. I request the words be expunged, and I express my regret,” he said.

His remarks added fuel to the “north-south” debate that has been raging since the BJP won elections in the heartland states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, while Congress swept Telangana.

Byju’s founder pledges homes to pay staff’s salaries

Ed-tech company Byju’s founder Byju Raveendran has pledged his home and those owned by his family members to raise money for the salaries of his employees, Bloomberg News reported.

The properties include two houses owned by the billionaire’s family and an under-construction villa in Bengaluru as collateral to borrow US$12 million, the report said.

The infusion of funds would help pay 15,000 employees in the embattled company’s parent firm Think & Learn. It is facing a string of setbacks, including investors cutting its valuation and board members quitting.

Tata flags deepfake video of his interview

Veteran industrialist and former Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata on Wednesday issued a “fake” alert on his name being misused on social media to “exaggerate investment” with risk-free and 100 per cent guarantee.

He called out a post from a person named Sona Agrawal that used a fake interview with him. The video also showed messages of people receiving money in their account.

Mr Tata wrote “FAKE” on the video and also on the screenshot of the caption of the video.

Court restores cheating case involving businessman Choksi

In a setback to fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi and his wife, the Supreme Court has restored a cheating case lodged by the Gujarat Police, while setting aside a 2017 order of the state high court quashing the police report against them.

According to a police report registered in 2015 in Gujarat by Mr Digvijaysinh Himmatsinh Jadeja, Choksi and his wife stand accused of offences of forgery and cheating in connection with a business transaction involving gold bars worth Rs30 crore.

Choksi, along with his nephew Nirav Modi, is also an accused in the Punjab National Bank scam case in which they allegedly defrauded the bank of more than Rs14,000 crore.
