Court orders government to restore Cockroach Party’s X account

The Delhi High court has directed the Central government to restore the X account of the youth-led Cockroach Janta Party, which was blocked after rapidly gaining about 200,000 followers.

Authorities had cited concerns over the party’s posts related to a leaked medical entrance examination.

The party welcomed the decision as a victory for free speech, while its protests demanding the education minister’s resignation continue.

Airport duty-free shops investigated over nicotine pouch sales

Mumbai International Airport’s duty-free shops, operated by the Adani Group, have been found by investigators to be selling nicotine pouches in violation of Indian law.

The company denies wrongdoing and is challenging the regulations in court. The outcome could determine whether nicotine pouches remain available at duty-free outlets across India’s airports.

India charges Hafiz Saeed over 2025 Pahalgam attack

India has charged Hafiz Saeed, founder of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, over the 2025 Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir that killed 26 people, mostly tourists.

The National Investigation Agency accused him of conspiring against India through the militant group and its proxy, The Resistance Front.

Pakistan has denied any involvement and called for an independent investigation.

Six killed after Mumbai building collapses amid heavy rain

Six people, including five children, died after a dilapidated residential building collapsed in Mumbai during torrential monsoon rain.

More than 200mm of rainfall have flooded roads, disrupted daily life and forced school closures.

Authorities issued a red weather alert as heavy rain and strong winds were forecast to continue across India’s financial capital.

Meta ordered to remove child abuse content

The Central government has instructed Meta to immediately remove all child sexual abuse and exploitation content from its platforms, including Instagram, following reports that such material appeared in advertisements.

The company has been asked to respond within seven days. Meta said it maintains a zero-tolerance policy and continues strengthening its safety measures.

West Bengal rape and murder suspect killed in police shootout

One of the suspects in the rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in West Bengal was killed in a police shooting on July 7, media reports said.

The police claimed that the accused, identified as Prabhas Mondal, attempted to snatch a firearm and flee during a reconstruction of the crime forcing them to shoot at him. He later died in hospital.

Mondal was among three men arrested after the girl’s body was recovered from a pond in South 24 Parganas district on July 5, stuffed inside a sack.

Assam Rifles jawans killed in Manipur ambush

Two Assam Rifles personnel were killed after militants ambushed their convoy in Manipur’s Ukhrul district on July 7. Security forces launched a massive search operation following the attack.

Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam condemned the incident, while Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice. The state continues to grapple with prolonged ethnic violence.

Mahadev betting app promoter detained in Oman

Sourabh Chandrakar, the absconding founder of the Mahadev betting app syndicate, has been detained in Oman based on an Interpol Red Notice.

Indian authorities are seeking his extradition or deportation.

The Enforcement Directorate alleges the betting racket generated proceeds of crime worth around Rs6,000 crore (S$813.3 million) and involved several influential politicians and bureaucrats from Chhattisgarh.

Gujarat High Court upholds Ahmedabad blasts verdict

The Gujarat High Court has upheld the death sentences of 38 convicts and life imprisonment for 11 others in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts case.

The coordinated bombings killed 56 people and injured 246.

The court also directed the state government to compensate victims’ families and survivors, reaffirming one of India’s biggest terror convictions.

Indian passport slips in global rankings

India has slipped one place to 125th in the Global Passport Index 2026, despite recording its highest overall passport score in five years.

Indian passport holders currently enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 26 destinations but still require visas for about 88 countries. The index also evaluates investment opportunities and quality of life alongside travel freedom.

Mizoram museum named India’s 21st biodiversity repository

The Natural History Museum at Mizoram University in Aizawl has been designated India’s 21st official biodiversity repository under the Biological Diversity Act.

Recommended by the National Biodiversity Authority, the museum will preserve biological specimens and serve as a legal registry for research materials, strengthening India’s biodiversity conservation and scientific documentation efforts.

Nurse arrested for allegedly killing husband with toilet cleaning detergent

A nurse in Telangana has been arrested for allegedly murdering her husband by injecting toilet cleaning detergent and crushed sleeping pills into his intravenous line while he was recovering from an earlier murder attempt.

Police believe she committed the crime to continue an extramarital relationship. The case came to light after the victim’s mother raised suspicions.

MLB names Suryakumar Yadav as ambassador

Major League Baseball has appointed India’s former T20 cricket captain Suryakumar Yadav as its ambassador to help popularise baseball in India.

He will participate in promotional events in India and the United States, including MLB All-Star Week in Philadelphia, while creating content that highlights the similarities between cricket and baseball to attract new fans.
