Relentless rains in Mumbai have submerged roads, disrupted trains and flights.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued multiple alerts for the city, warning of more downpours.

Videos showed waist-deep flooding and residents wading through garbage-clogged streets.

Airlines and railways urged passengers to plan cautiously as operations were hit.

Authorities continued rescue efforts as the city struggled with waterlogging for a fourth consecutive day on Aug 21.

On Tuesday, they rescued 600 people who got stuck on an overcrowded monorail system that stopped mid-journey. At least 23 had to be treated for suffocation, officials said.

In just four days, Mumbai has seen 800mm of rainfall, according to IMD, which is well above the average rain recorded in August.
