The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and neighbouring districts as temperatures are expected to rise sharply over the next few days, with Thane likely to touch 39 deg C.
The weather department has forecast hot and humid conditions across Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and Ratnagiri in Maharashtra between May 6 and 8.
Temperatures in Mumbai are expected to cross 36 deg C, while Thane could see mercury levels climb beyond 39 deg C due to dry easterly winds.
Day temperatures in Mumbai suburbs and Colaba had already crossed 34 deg C on May 5, with minimum temperatures hovering between 28 dec C and 29 deg C overnight.
The IMD has advised vulnerable groups to avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and urged outdoor workers to schedule strenuous activities during cooler hours to prevent heat cramps and heat rash.
Despite the soaring temperatures, the IMD clarified that no official heatwave warning has been issued yet for the Konkan region.
