Mahavir Jayanti was celebrated across India on March 31 with deep religious fervour, as the Jain community marked the 2625th Janm Kalyanak of Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara.

The day saw chariot processions, temple rituals, prayers and acts of charity centred on Mahavira’s timeless teachings of Ahimsa (non-violence), Satya (truth) and Aparigraha (non-attachment).

In many cities, idols of Lord Mahavira were taken out in colourful Rath Yatras accompanied by bhajans and chants, while devotees visited temples for abhishek, meditation and sermons.

In Bengaluru, more than 1,000 people gathered at Freedom Park after a procession from Town Hall, with Yakshagana performers and women carrying kalashas adding cultural vibrancy to the event.

Many followers also distributed food, supported animal shelters and joined health and blood donation drives, reflecting Mahavira’s message of compassion and service.
