Delhi’s most unusual election is going down to the wire, with the winner of the viral “Fat Dogs of Delhi” contest still to be declared.

What began with 64 of the capital’s “chonkiest” canines has come down to two finalists – Googoo, a 46kg mixed-breed dog from Saket, and Gola from SDA Market in Hauz Khas.

In an emotional twist, Gola died before the final rounds but continued competing posthumously, propelled by a huge wave of public support, reported the Hindustan Times.

The Instagram knockout competition has attracted thousands of votes, with supporters creating campaign posters, memes and endorsement videos for their neighbourhood favourites.

Voting, which stretched from Sept 30 into Oct 1, also included in-person ballot stations across Delhi-NCR.

Googoo, meanwhile, is ironically undergoing a supervised weight-loss programme at Jeevashram Foundation.

With voting fiercely contested, Delhi is still waiting to discover which canine will wear the heavyweight crown. The result is likely to be declared this weekend.
