Asia’s largest tulip garden opened in Srinagar on March 16, marking the start of the annual Tulip Festival and the arrival of spring in Jammu and Kashmir.
Located at the foothills of the Zabarwan Range, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden has been planted with more than 1.5 million tulips across over 70 varieties, transforming the 74-acre site into a sea of colour.
The terraced garden, spread across seven levels, also features hyacinths, daffodils, roses, muscari, irises and ranunculus.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated the festival and said the garden was still days away from full bloom but already looked spectacular.
“The garden looks amazing. The team of gardeners have done an amazing job,” he said in a post on X.
Opened in 2007 to promote floriculture and tourism, the garden overlooks Dal Lake and has become one of Kashmir’s top spring attractions, drawing visitors from India and abroad each year.
