Visa Cash App Red Bull’s drivers Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad drew hundreds of fans to WEAVE at Resorts World Sentosa on Oct 7, where supporters who had long awaited to see their favourite F1 drivers up close packed the venue.
Many had flown down from New Zealand, Lawson’s home country, to see him and the VCARB car that was displayed in all its glory at the event.
Speaking onstage, Lawson said the Marina Bay circuit holds special meaning for him. The track was his childhood favourite and the one he often played on Formula 1 video games.
Back when he was racing go-karts, his father had promised to take him to Singapore one day. That trip never happened while he was growing up, but his father eventually came to watch him race in 2023 when Lawson scored his first point.
“It’s just a very cool place,” he said, adding that this weekend’s sprint format makes it even more exciting. With two qualifying sessions and two races, the team gets two shots at scoring points.
VCARB is locked in a very close fight with Alpine this season and is trying to stay ahead of them.
Lindblad, who is having a standout rookie season, said he has enjoyed every moment of it. Reaching Formula 1 is something all racers work towards their whole lives, he said, and he feels very lucky to have made it.
While he knew what to expect on track, the biggest surprise hs been much off-track work the role involves, including fan events like this one. Even so, he called it an amazing experience and said he has loved being a Formula 1 driver this year.
Before leaving the stage, Lindblad said the support for the team means a lot, and hopes it will put on a great show this weekend.
Lindblad, who is of British-Indian descent, also visited Little India during his very limited down time in between his commitments, taking to Instagram to share snippets of the visit.
After the stage session, the drivers, alongside VCARB’s team principle Alex Permane took a lap of the stage to meet eager fans, many of whom waited nearly eight hours to see them.
