Singapore’s 53-member contingent ended their 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign – held in Glasgow over July 23 to Aug 2 – with two silver medals, won in para-swimming (men’s 50m freestyle S7) and gymnastics (women’s balance beam).

Despite the modest haul, sprinter Shanti Pereira, 29, became the first Singaporean to qualify for an individual sprint final. She didn’t manage to clinch a medal in the women’s 200m final, but still clocked a season’s best of 22.81 seconds in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, 62-year old para-lawn bowler Mawjit Singh – the oldest in the contingent – had the honour of being Singapore’s joint flag bearer at the Games. Partnering with Khirmern Mohamad, 56, the duo concluded their maiden Commonwealth Games campaign with a 6th-place sectional finish.

Distance runner Thiruben Thana Rajan – having competed for Singapore in a pair of Commonwealth Games – reached a significant career peak during his latest outing. He became the first Singaporean athlete in history to compete in the Men’s 800m at the Commonwealth Games. Clocking a time of 1:53.89, he finished 7th in his individual heat and 24th overall out of 32 competitors.

Outside of Singapore, sub-continent-origin sportsmen and women had a mixed performance.

India concluded its Glasgow campaign in fourth position, amassing a total of 39 medals, comprising 13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze.

The nation’s boxers delivered a historic performance, securing 10 medals, including an impressive seven golds and three silvers. In weightlifting, Mirabai Chanu won her third consecutive Commonwealth gold, placing her in an elite group of athletes and in judo, India had a breakthrough performance with three medals, including its first-ever gold medals in the sport.

India has also been formally granted the hosting rights for the 2030 Games in Ahmedabad. This event, marking the centenary of the Commonwealth Games, is set to showcase a widened sporting roster featuring between 15 and 17 disciplines.

Sri Lanka also did well in the 2026 Games and finished 17th in the overall standings. It clinched two medals – a gold in the men’s javelin throw and a silver in the men’s discus throw.

The other nations were less successful.

Pakistan finished its campaign with a solitary medal – a bronze secured by Fatima Zahra in the women’s 60kg boxing division. It marked the nation’s inaugural women’s Commonwealth Games boxing medal, though the overall tally represented Pakistan’s least successful performance in more than twenty years.

Bangladesh and the Maldives failed to win any medals.
