Football fans in Singapore will get a rare opportunity to watch five-time world champions Brazil in action when the National Stadium hosts a new four-nation international tournament in November.
Brazil, Japan and Paraguay will join hosts Singapore in the inaugural Mizuho Blue Challenge – The Kallang Football Series Singapore, to be held from Nov 13 to 17 during the FIFA international window.
The Kallang Group and Dentsu Sports International announced the tournament on Sept 3, with four matches scheduled across three match days.
Singapore will open against Paraguay on Nov 13, before Japan face Brazil the following day in a rematch of their recent FIFA World Cup 2026 encounter.
The tournament concludes on Nov 17, when Singapore take on Brazil before Japan meet Paraguay.
The quality of the opposition presents a significant test for the Lions as they prepare for the AFC Asian Cup 2027, for which Singapore qualified on merit for the first time.
Brazil are fifth in the latest FIFA rankings as of Sept 2, while Japan are 17th and Paraguay 34th.
Singapore head coach Gavin Lee welcomed the opportunity to test his players against stronger opposition.
“These kinds of matches are invaluable to us because they test us and show us where we are and, more importantly, where we still need to improve,” he said.
“We’ve made good progress, but there’s still a lot of work ahead of us, and every game we play now is about helping us prepare for the Asian Cup.”
Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti said the Singapore matches would form another step in developing his side for the coming years.
“Facing Japan and Singapore will allow us to observe the team’s behaviour in different contexts,” he said.
“We are working to strengthen our identity and expand our options.”
Japan coach Hajime Moriyasu said facing two strong South American teams would provide valuable preparation ahead of the Asian Cup.
He also acknowledged the support Japan received from football fans across Asia, including Singapore, during the World Cup.
The tournament is the first proprietary sports property created by The Kallang Group as it seeks to evolve beyond operating venues into developing its own major sporting and entertainment events.
The event, organised in partnership with Dentsu Sports International and supported by Mizuho Financial Group as title sponsor, also forms part of celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of Singapore-Japan diplomatic relations.
The Kallang Group chief operating officer and chief experience officer Daryl Yeo described the tournament as a “significant milestone” in the organisation’s evolution.
“We look forward to welcoming supporters to The Kallang to experience football at its very best,” he said.
Tickets go on sale at noon on Sept 4, with prices for Singapore’s opening match against Paraguay starting at S$28. One ticket will provide admission to both matches in the Nov 17 doubleheader.
