The sole rookie driver for the 2026 Formula One (F1) season has Indian F1 fans all revved up. After making his debut with Racing Bulls, Arvid Lindblad, 18, is the third driver of Indian origin to race in F1 after Karun Chandhok (2010-2011) and Narain Karthikeyan (2005-2012).

Born in Surrey, England, to Swedish father, Stefan Lindblad, and British-Indian mother, Anita Ahuja, Arvid has always embraced his mixed heritage.

“I come from a multi-cultural, multi-faith background. And that’s at the core of my being,” Mr Arvid said in an interview with Red Bull.

Although he races under the British flag, and is the youngest Briton to race in F1 according to the BBC, Arvid’s helmet is purposefully designed with the three country flags that fully represent him: Great Britain, Sweden, and India.

His popularity amongst Indian F1 fans has only multiplied, fuelled by his many social media posts, which display his open adoration for his motherland, and Indian food and culture.

One reel in particular, posted to Racing Bulls’ official instagram account, features his Punjabi grandmother, whom he fondly addresses as “nani”, performing a puja (ritual) for good luck before Arvid headlined the Red Bull Moto Jam 2026 festival in Delhi.

One commenter wrote: “Never thought I’d see nani on an F1 team’s content.”

On March 8, Arvid made the headlines for scoring points on his debut F1 race at the Australian Grand Prix. He had qualified in ninth place the day before, and after 58 laps around the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne, including a memorable wheel-to-wheel encounter with Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton, finished in eight place.

It is a notable feat considering he outperformed his more experienced teammate Liam Lawson, 24, who only placed 13th on the grid. Arvid also set the record as the third youngest F1 points scorer at 18 years and seven months – behind Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli and Red Bull’s four-time world champion Max Verstappen.

“When I was five years old, I had a dream and my dream was to be in Formula 1 and I am living my dream today,” he told Sky Sports after the race.

Mr Arvid’s motorsport journey began at the tender age of three, when his father gifted him a motocross bike. He made his competitive debut in the British karting circuit at age eight, and joined Red Bull’s junior programme when he was 13 years old.

He would go on to make history as the youngest ever race winner in Formula 3 (Bahrain Sprint Race) and Formula 2 (Jeddah Sprint Race), aged at just 16 and 17 respectively.

His performances caught the eye of Red Bull’s former motorsport adviser Helmut Marko, and Arvid was fast-tracked to take up the second seat at Racing Bulls after his predecessor Isack Hadjar’s promotion to Red Bull this year.

In his social media post after the race in Melbourne, Arvid thanked his team for the amazing weekend and shared his excitement about carrying on this momentum into the Chinese Grand Prix, which will take place in Shanghai from March 13 to 15.
