Aamir Khan has revealed that the hit Hindi film Lagaan’s budget shot up from Rs12 crore (S$1.7 million) to Rs25 crore, largely due to chaos during shooting.
“I can’t make films on budget,” he admitted. Recalling a costly day, he said 2,000 extras had to be paid despite not filming.
Aamir added he produced the film to protect director Ashutosh Gowariker’s vision, pioneering sync sound and walkie-talkies on Indian sets.
