4 killed in Ladakh statehood clashes

Four protesters died and several were injured in violent clashes with police in Leh, Ladakh, on Sept 24.

Demonstrators demanding statehood attacked a political party’s office and vehicles, prompting police firing.

The unrest comes ahead of the Oct 6 talks between Ladakh’s Apex Body and the Central government.

PM Modi urges boycott of foreign goods

Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Indians on Sept 21 to shun foreign products and embrace “Swadeshi” or made-in-India goods, following new United States tariffs on Indian imports.

He called on citizens and shopkeepers to support local products, saying this would strengthen economic growth as ties with Washington strain further.

Afghan boy found in plane’s landing gear

A 13-year-old Afghan boy was discovered at Delhi airport on Sept 21 after hiding inside the landing gear of a Kam Air flight from Kabul. He hailed from Kunduz and attempted the journey without a ticket.

Authorities returned him to Kabul the same day.

Assam bids farewell to Zubeen Garg

Tens of thousands mourned singer Zubeen Garg in Assam on Sept 23 after his death in Singapore.

Cremated with state honours, Zubeen was hailed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his musical legacy.

Assam declared four days of mourning as fans flooded the streets singing his hits.

Luxury car smuggling scandal in Kerala

Customs in Kochi seized 36 smuggled luxury cars on Tuesday, linked to forged registrations via Bhutan.

Vehicles registered under actors Dulquer Salmaan and Amith Chakkalakkal were among those seized.

Officials estimate 200 such vehicles may be operating in Kerala. The operation, codenamed Numkhor, involved raids across six districts.

12 dead as Kolkata floods before puja

At least 12 people died in rain-related incidents in Kolkata after overnight downpours caused severe flooding on Sept 24.

Nine deaths were from electrocution.

More than 100 flights were affected, with schools shut and transport disrupted. Some areas recorded over 300mm rainfall as Durga Puja preparations were hit.

Delhi godman accused of molestation

Delhi police booked Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati, director of a Vasant Kunj ashram run by the Sringeri Peetha, after 17 female students accused him of molestation and harassment.

The accused remains at large. Investigators seized a Volvo with fake diplomatic plates from the ashram.

The Sringeri Peetha has expelled him, calling his conduct “illegal and inappropriate”.

NIA probes Khalistani threat to PM Modi

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a case against United States-based Khalistani leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun for offering Rs11 crore (S$1.6 million) to disrupt Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day (Aug 15) flag hoisting.

The first information report cites conspiracy and UAPA charges, after Pannun unveiled a “Khalistan map” in a Pakistan press event on Aug 10.

Raj Kundra transferred Rs15 crore to wife’s firm

Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing has found that businessman Raj Kundra transferred Rs15 crore (S$2.2 million) from an alleged Rs60 crore fraud case to a company owned by his wife and actress Shilpa Shetty.

The funds were linked to Best Deal TV, reported NDTV. Investigators suspect the sum is excessive for advertising services, and Shilpa may soon be summoned for questioning.

Teacher arrested for aiding Pahalgam terrorists

Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested 26-year-old teacher Mohammad Yousuf Katari for allegedly helping Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists in the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 tourists.

Katari, a worker in Kulgam, allegedly provided logistical support. His links were uncovered after analysis of equipment seized during Operation Mahadev, where the attackers were killed.

Newborn abandoned with lips glued, stone in mouth

A 15-day-old baby was found abandoned in a forest in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district with his lips glued and a stone stuffed in his mouth.

A cattle herder rescued him and rushed him to the hospital. Police are investigating, tracing parents through local delivery records and village inquiries.

Asaram puja at hospital sparks row

Controversy erupted after followers of convicted rapist Asaram Bapu conducted a puja with his photo at Surat Civil Hospital on Sept 21.

Officials said permission was only granted to distribute fruits. After a viral video, the hospital removed a security guard and condemned the unauthorised ritual.

Ex-banker loses Rs23 crore in cyber fraud

A retired banker in Delhi lost Rs23 crore (S$3.3 million) after fraudsters subjected him to a month-long “digital arrest,” posing as investigators.

Confined to his home, he was coerced into handing over savings. Police froze Rs2.67 crore but funds were layered across 4,000 accounts.

The probe continues.
