As part of Singapore’s SG60 celebrations and the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and India, SIFAS Productions, the production arm of the Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society (SIFAS), is set to stage its first international performance in Chennai.
The Universal Balance – Harihara will be presented on Sept 13 and 14 at the Bharata Kalakshetra Auditorium.
The Sept 13 performance will be open to the public with tickets available online, while the Sept 14 show is by invitation only, attended by Guest-of-Honour Edgar Pang, Consul-General of Singapore in Chennai.
The Universal Balance explores the eternal dualities of existence – creation and dissolution, devotion and detachment, sound and silence – through the divine union of Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva as Harihara.
The production reflects Singapore’s vibrant multicultural spirit while honouring India’s deep-rooted traditions.
Two original segments will take centre stage.
Narayanam, a Carnatic vocal presentation curated by Guru Jyothishmathi Sheejith, features alumni Sai Vigneshwar (vocals), Sreeranjani Muthu Subramanian (violin), Sai Akileshwar (mridangam), Kavya Sivakumar (veena), and Sabapathy Tirupathi Ramana (flute).
Thillai – The Golden Abode of Shiva, a bharatanatyam presentation choreographed by Guru P K Geethanadhan, will showcase alumni dancers Gopikka N L, Kritika Suresh, Nagalakshmi, Tejashree Parthasarathy, and Vismaya Dinesh.
SIFAS executive director Menaka Gopalan called the Chennai staging a milestone.
“As we celebrate SG60 and 60 years of Singapore-India diplomatic relations, it is an honour for SIFAS Productions to represent Singapore on one of India’s most revered stages,” she said. This is a testament to the enduring power of the arts to unite cultures, inspire communities, and shape the future together.”
SIFAS Productions is known for creating original, world-class productions in music, dance, and theatre while nurturing artistic talent. With an emphasis on cross-cultural and multi-ethnic collaborations, the organisation promotes social integration, racial harmony, and global artistic excellence.
By bringing Harihara to Chennai, SIFAS Productions not only showcases Singapore’s homegrown talents but also strengthens the cultural bridge between the two nations – a fitting tribute to six decades of friendship and shared heritage.
