The Pakistan High Commission (PHC) in Singapore, in collaboration with Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, marked the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Singapore with a special Qawwali evening titled At the Feet of the Beloved.
Held at the Esplanade on April 30, the event drew a large and diverse audience comprising diplomats, business leaders, members of the Pakistani diaspora, art lovers and members of the public, reflecting the enduring appeal of Pakistan’s rich musical and cultural traditions.
The evening featured celebrated qawwals Rizwan and Muazzam, nephews of the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
Carrying forward a 700-year-old Sufi musical tradition, the duo delivered soulful renditions that captivated the audience with their spiritual depth and powerful vocals.
Speaking at the event, Pakistan High Commissioner Rabia Shafiq said qawwali, rooted in the teachings of Sufi saints, represents love, harmony and spiritual devotion.
She noted that cultural traditions such as qawwali help build bridges between people across cultures and borders.
She also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening people-to-people ties and enhancing cultural understanding with Singapore through such initiatives.
On the sidelines of the programme, the High Commissioner hosted a reception for diplomats and distinguished guests attending the event.
