To commemorate his 25-year journey in the music industry, local music icon Pravin Saivi delivered a grand musical feast with nearly 400 people, including volunteers, sponsors, and fellow artists, gathered at the RELC Auditorium on June 6.

Pravin shared that the concert’s title ‘Oru Kathai Sollava’, translating to “Shall I tell a story?”, held deep personal significance, as it was the title of the very first song he composed when he was just 17 years old.

“I thought of creating this show in a storytelling format where the audience could interact with me during the performance itself,” he said.

Mr Pravin spent a decade in the Singapore music industry before his career took a major turn in 2011 when he participated in the third season of Vijay TV’s popular talent show ‘Super Singer’. This milestone marked the beginning of his 15-year journey as a professional musician in India.

While music remains his main livelihood, Mr Pravin also revealed that since the Covid-19 pandemic, he has been teaching music to children online via VSharp Gurukulam, a music institution based in Dallas, Texas.

“I didn’t realise I had a special talent for teaching. Maybe it’s because I come from a family with many teachers,” he quipped.

To honour his role as an educator, Mr Pravin presented a special a cappella segment during the concert. He was joined virtually by his students of VSharp Gurukulam through a pre-recorded video.

Renowned Tamil musician and Pravin’s longtime friend, Maalavika Sundar, praised his expertise in the a cappella style, which relies entirely on vocal execution without instrumental accompaniment.

Having shared the stage with Mr Pravin during the third season of ‘Super Singer’, Ms Malavika surprised the audience by appearing as a special guest to perform with him.

Pravin also collaborated with prominent local artists like Suthasini Rajenderan, Pavithra Nair, and veteran Mohamed Raffee, delivering a vibrant mix of original tracks alongside popular Tamil, Hindi, and English songs on stage.

Thilagam Selvaraju, a concert attendee, noted that Pravin’s extensive experience, especially from his time in India, was remarkably evident in his stage presence and showmanship.

“He is our local boy, and we are incredibly proud of his journey,” she expressed.

Another audience member, Anandhathangam, lauded the seamless song selection and musical arrangements: “Hearing him sing live was a completely different experience altogether.”
