Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor is in hot water, after controversial comments he made about actresses, including Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif, were dug out by netizens who sent them viral.
His troubles began during a recent live session when his wife, the acclaimed actress Alia Bhatt, mentioned that she had to remove her lipstick on his insistence.
She revealed that when he was her boyfriend, Ranbir would often ask her to “wipe off” her lipstick because he liked her natural lip colour.
The comment may have seemed unremarkable to the couple, now married with a daughter, Raha. But many netizens took offence and set off an online storm.
The clip soon sparked massive outrage, and people saw it as their business to advise Alia that this should be taken as a “red flag” in her marriage.
Netizens began calling Ranbir “a controlling husband”, and some even sarcastically directed Alia to “blink twice if she is in domestic trouble”.
Then, even as the controversy was raging, one Internet user brought out an infographics article compiled by Scoopwhoop titled “To the Ranbir Kapoor’s of the world, here are 12 things you can’t say to women”.
The link went viral on Reddit.
The series has Ranbir’s images fading in the backdrop as he utters misogynist comments.
In one, he is quoted as saying: “When a woman is heartbroken, all she needs to do is go to the salon, and before you know it, she has moved on to someone else.”
In another, Ranbir calls Alia “a very loud personality”.
While another post reportedly refers to Anushka: “She is the anxiety queen. She takes anti-anxiety pills even if she has to have a conversation because she is frantic.”
Netizens fumed at Ranbir’s audacity to make these comments.
“So happy that this man child is finally called out,” one said. “Anushka’s anxiety one was the worst. I have high functioning anxiety and I take meds for it and if someone looks into my medical cabinet and (goes on to) out me in front of everyone, I will smack them in the face.”
Another one said: “The teasing thing and you can’t talk properly were aimed at Katrina and she was visibly uncomfortable. Lol this is so remarkable… Ranbir will not be excused so easily.”
