After the roaring success of RRR and Baahubali, S.S. Rajamouli is back with a new film.

The director is all set to narrate the story of Dadasaheb Phalke, affectionately known as “the Father of Indian cinema”.

Made In India will be produced by Varun Gupta and Rajamouli’s son S.S.Karthikeya, helmed by Nitin Kakkar and released in six languages – Marathi, Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.

Indian media reported that the film will tell the story of “the birth and rise of Indian cinema”.

According to Rajamouli’s spokesman, the film promises to be a “magnum opus on a huge scale and canvas”.

The filmmaker announced the movie on Tuesday with a video on X.

“I was moved when I heard the narrative. Making a biopic alone is tough but to conceive one about the Father of Indian cinema is even more challenging,” Rajamouli wrote on X.

“Our boys are ready and up for it. With pride, I present Made In India.”

Reacting to the announcement, some netizens asked Rajamouli about his otherplans to film Mahabharat. It is a dream project he has talked about over the years.

He recently said: “If I get to the point of making Mahabharat, it would take me a year just to read the versions of Mahabharat(the epic) that are available in the country. At present, I can only assume that it would be a 10-part film.

“With every film I make, I feel that I’m learning something to ultimately make Mahabharat. So that’s my dream and every step is towards that.”

Rajamaouli’s last film RRR was a mega hit. Starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, it won international awards such as the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song and the Oscar for Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu.

RRR followed the story of two fictitious legendary revolutionaries and their journey away from home before they started fighting for their country in the 1920s.

Last weekend, Rajamouli won the Best Director award (Telugu) at the South Indian International Movie Awards for RRR.

The film recently also won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, Best Music Direction for M.M. Keeravani, Best Male Playback Singer for Kalabhairava, Best Special Effects, Best Action Director and Best Choreography.

Rajamouli is currently on a break but will soon start the pre-production work of his upcoming Telugu film with Mahesh Babu.

Indian media have also been reporting that Rajamouli will be making a cameo appearance in Prabhas’the film Kalki 2898 AD although there has been no confirmation.

Rajamouli had played a cameo in Baahubali: The Beginning and made special appearances in his other films. He has also starred in a few commercials.
