Netflix has announced six new Tamil and Telugu original films and series, expanding its commitment to showcasing South India’s creative talent.

The slate spans thrillers, comedies, dramas, and romances – each rooted in local storytelling yet crafted for a global audience.

Ms Monika Shergill, vice-President of content at Netflix India, said: “We are excited and deeply committed to championing stories from the South across languages and cultures. These originals, created with emerging voices from Tamil and Telugu cinema, offer both depth and diversity.”

The Tamil psychological thriller Stephen, directed by Mithun and starring Gomathi Shankar, explores the eerie dynamics between a psychiatrist and a self-confessed killer.

What begins as a clinical session spirals into a chilling mystery.

In contrast, Super Subbu (Telugu), directed by Mallik Ram, is an offbeat comedy starring Sandeep Kishan as a man hilariously unqualified to teach sex education in a remote village.

The Tamil series #Love, from director Balaji Mohan, stars Arjun Das and Aishwarya Lekshmi in a witty, modern romance exploring chemistry, compatibility, and contemporary love.

Meanwhile, Made in Korea, directed by Ra Karthik and starring Priyanka Mohan with Squid Game’s Park Hye-Jin, tells a cross-cultural story of heartbreak and rediscovery in Seoul.

Adding to the variety, Takshakudu (Telugu), directed by Vinod Anantoju and starring Anand Devarakonda, is a folklore-based thriller about a blind man’s quest for vengeance with his loyal dog.

Finally, Legacy, a Tamil crime saga by Charukesh Sekar featuring R. Madhavan, Nimisha Sajayan, Gulshan Devaiah, and Gautham Karthik, delves into a family’s power struggle within a criminal empire.

Following the massive success of Maharaja, Lucky Baskhar, Test, and The Game: You Never Play Alone, Netflix continues to highlight the global appeal of South Indian stories – proving that authentic regional voices can resonate worldwide.
