The strength of any community lies in its ability to pause, listen, and look ahead. Over the past month, the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) led two significant engagement sessions that did exactly that. The Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) held served as a vital platform for stakeholders to voice their aspirations for a stronger, more united Singapore Indian community.

The first session, held on Nov 29, brought together leaders from over 30 community groups, including a dynamic cohort of youth leaders under 35. They delved into the nuances of the Singapore Indian identity and how sports and cultural events can act as a bridge between sub-ethnic groups.

This was followed by a Dec 6 session, co-organised with the Indian Heritage Centre, which explored how our shared arts and heritage can foster a deeper sense of belonging.

Spearheading these meaningful dialogues was Mr Dinesh Vasu Dash, Minister of State (MOS) for MCCY and Manpower. He posed a fundamental question to all participants: “What does success in the community look like in the next five years, and how can we achieve it?”

To guide this vision, MOS Dinesh identified three critical priorities: Uplifting vulnerable communities to ensure no one is left behind; Nurturing our youth to prepare the next generation of leaders; and Strengthening social cohesion by building resilient bonds across all backgrounds.

At tabla!, we share these noble pursuits. In the upcoming year, we are committed to being a central pillar of this unity.

Our readers can look forward to more hyper-local, community-specific content that celebrates our collective achievements while addressing the issues that matter most.

We will be refreshing our content across both digital and print platforms to encapsulate vital themes such as arts, heritage, food, education, youth, and the diaspora Indian communities.

Together, we look forward to documenting and supporting this new chapter of progress.
