Peace, harmony and inner well-being took centre stage as Vihangam Yoga Singapore organised a four-day programme from Oct 1 to 4, bringing together people of different faiths, professions, ages and cultural backgrounds.
Through interfaith discussions, conversations on purposeful living, meditation and community activities, the programme highlighted the importance of mutual understanding, compassion and personal well-being in Singapore’s multicultural society.
The events coincided with the visit of Sadguru Swatantra Deo Ji Maharaj and Sant Shri Naam Deo Ji Maharaj, who encouraged participants to cultivate inner peace, self-awareness and harmonious relationships. They are spiritual leaders of the Vihangam Yoga Organisation, a global NGO and spiritual movement founded in 1924 by Maharishi Sadguru Sadafaldeo Ji Maharaj in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
The programme began on Oct 1 with an interfaith dialogue involving representatives of different religious and community groups.
Discussions centred on how shared values such as kindness, tolerance and respect could strengthen social cohesion despite differences in beliefs and traditions.
Participants exchanged perspectives on the importance of peaceful coexistence and the role individuals can play in promoting understanding within their families, workplaces and neighbourhoods.
On Oct 2, a dialogue titled Spirituality, Dharma and Purpose brought together business leaders and professionals to explore the relationship between personal values and everyday decision-making.
The discussion examined how individuals could balance professional ambition and material success with ethical responsibility, personal fulfilment and concern for others.
It also emphasised that purposeful living need not be separated from professional achievement, and that responsible leadership could contribute to healthier organisations and stronger communities.
Meditation and family activities
The third day’s gathering, held on Oct/ 3 at One World International School in Punggol, focused on meditation, self-awareness and emotional well-being.
India’s Deputy High Commissioner Sudhi Choudhary attended as guest of honour.
Participants listened to discourses by the visiting spiritual leaders and took part in activities encouraging reflection and mental calmness.
Singapore Gandharva welcomed the guests with a traditional dhol performance, adding a lively cultural element to the occasion.
Families were an important part of the programme.
A separate children’s segment featured a magic show, balloon activities and goodie bags, ensuring younger participants could enjoy the gathering while their parents attended the discussions.
The evening concluded with prasad served to attendees, providing an opportunity for informal interaction and community bonding.
Hundreds gather for Vedic ceremony
The programme culminated on Oct 4 with a large-scale 501-Kund Vedic Hawan Yajna near Block 118 Aljunied Avenue 2.
Organisers described it as the first ceremony of its scale and format conducted in Singapore.
Held at a venue made available by the Singapore Land Authority, the event brought together hundreds of participants across generations.
Children sat alongside parents and grandparents as families participated in traditional rituals centred on prayers for peace, harmony, universal well-being and remembrance of ancestors.
Hundreds of metal fire pits were arranged beneath a specially constructed tent, creating an impressive setting as Vedic chants accompanied the proceedings.
Beyond its religious significance, the gathering demonstrated the strength of collective community participation.
Volunteers spent several days preparing the venue and coordinating registration, crowd management, food distribution and participant assistance.
Fire-safety measures, medical and ambulance support, drinking water and toilet facilities were also arranged, with particular attention given to children and senior citizens.
The organisers said the event reflected the importance of cooperation, volunteerism and shared responsibility.
Founded in India in 1924 by Sadguru Sadafal Deo Ji Maharaj, Vihangam Yoga is a meditation tradition that promotes self-awareness and inner development.
Its Singapore chapter hopes to make these principles relevant to everyday life by encouraging healthier relationships, responsible conduct and stronger community connections.
