Singapore’s Hindu community is preparing for one of its most spiritually enriching events of the year – the Gita Havan.

It will be held on July 27 at PGP Hall, Serangoon Road, as part of the 28th annual Gita Jayanti celebrations.

Organised under the umbrella of Gita Jayanti Singapore, under the auspices of the Hindu Endowments Board, the sacred event will run from 6.30am to 1pm, and is open to all with free admission.

The Gita Havan is a hallmark of the year-long Gita Jayanti calendar. It includes ritual offerings (ahuti) for all 700 verses of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, accompanied by Gita chanting.

Preliminary rituals like Ganapathi Homam and Krishna Puja will precede the main Havan, which culminates in an elaborate puja and grand altar decoration.

All participants will be served prasadam (lunch) after the event, and those wishing to join the Havan will be provided with materials for the ritual.

Gita Jayanti commemorates the birth of the Bhagavad Gita – India’s timeless philosophical scripture – and has grown from modest beginnings in 1997 to a comprehensive celebration that includes competitions, cultural programmes, Gita recitations, and global forums.

Its inclusive leadership model sees a different Indian community or organisation lead the event each year. This year, the Bengali Association Singapore is at the helm.
