Singapore’s Hindu community is set to gather for the annual Gita Havan (ritual burning of offerings), which takes place on Sunday, Aug 2, as part of the Gita Jayanti Singapore’s 29th year celebrations.

Organised under the auspices of the Hindu Endowments Board, the event will be held from 7am to 1pm at PGP Hall, 397 Serangoon Road, with free admission for all devotees and members of the public.

The Gita Havan is a key highlight of the year-long Gita Jayanti programme and features ritual offerings (aahuti) for all 700 verses of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, accompanied by collective chanting of the sacred scripture.

Participants are encouraged to bring their personal copies of the Bhagavad Gita to join in the recitation, while the ingredients for the sacred ritual offering will be provided.

The programme will begin with Ganapathi Homam and Krishna Puja, followed by the main Havan, culminating in an elaborate puja and beautifully decorated altar. Prasadam (lunch) will be served to all participants after the ceremony.

Since its inception in 1997, Gita Jayanti Singapore has grown into a major annual celebration promoting the timeless teachings of the Bhagavad Gita through spiritual programmes, competitions, cultural performances, recitations and community outreach. This year’s celebrations are led by BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Singapore under the event’s rotating community leadership model.

The celebrations will continue with Krishna Manjari 2026 on Sept 12 at PGP Hall. The free cultural programme will feature music, dance, theatrical performances and an exhibition of original artworks inspired by Lord Krishna and the Bhagavad Gita. Dinner will be provided, although advance registration is required.
