Sree Maha Mariamman Temple was filled with resounding cheers of “Om Shakthi” and “Parashakthi” on June 18, as it celebrated its third consecration ceremony (and sixth overall) since moving to its current location at Yishun Avenue 3.

The event was graced by the Guest of Honour, Minister for Home Affairs and Coordinating Minister for National Security K. Shanmugam. He was joined by Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth Dinesh Vasu Dash and Nee Soon GRC leaders. Despite the ceremony falling on a weekday, about 8,000 devotees gathered to see the temple in its full splendour. About 800 volunteers were deployed, and dedicated lanes were introduced for smoother crowd management.

Ms Porchelvi, the temple’s treasurer and a member of the organising committee for the consecration ceremony, said the temple was the culmination of the efforts undertaken over the past two and a half years. “This year saw the introduction of the Rajagopuram (monumental entrance tower), the installation of the Maha Meru (a three-dimensional representation of the Sri Chakra) and the 18-metre-tall Karuppar statue,” she noted.
