Singapore’s classical music lovers are set for a soulful evening as Anup Jalota, widely revered as the “Bhajan Samrat”, takes the stage on May 10 as part of the Soorya Singapore Festival of Dance & Music 2026.

The concert, to be held at 6.30pm, will feature a curated selection of bhajans and ghazals, showcasing the depth and beauty of India’s classical and devotional music traditions. Jalota will be accompanied by a live orchestra from India, promising an immersive musical experience.

Organised under the long-running SooryaSG Festival series, the event continues a tradition of bringing world-class Indian performing arts to Singapore audiences since 2005. This year’s edition also aims to blend music with visual arts, featuring an exhibition by Singapore-based artists.

Born in Nainital, India, Jalota hails from a distinguished musical lineage and trained at the Bhatkhande Music Institute in Lucknow. Over a career spanning more than six decades, he has recorded over 2,000 songs and released more than 200 albums across multiple languages.

He is best known for timeless bhajans such as Aisi Lagi Lagan, Rang De Chunariya, and Jag Mein Sundar Hai Do Naam, which have resonated with audiences worldwide. His repertoire also includes ghazals and light classical music, reflecting his versatility.

A recipient of the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian honours, Jalota has performed over 5,000 concerts across more than 400 cities globally, including prestigious venues like the Royal Albert Hall and Sydney Opera House.

The upcoming Singapore concert is expected to be a highlight for connoisseurs of Indian classical music, offering a rare opportunity to witness one of the genre’s most celebrated voices live.
