30 wedding guests ill after banquet

Thirty people came down with food poisoning after eating at a wedding banquet at The St Regis Singapore.

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said the incident took place on Sept 3 but none of those affected needed to be hospitalised.

SFA said it is investigating the incident with the Ministry of Health.

Marymount Flyover to close from Oct 8

The Marymount Flyover in Upper Thomson will be closed from Oct 8 to make way for the construction of the North-South Corridor road tunnel, part of which will run underneath the flyover.

The flyover will reopen when construction of the road tunnel is completed in 2029, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Tuesday in response to queries from The Straits Times.

Announcing the move in a Facebook post on Monday night, LTA said motorists travelling along Marymount Road will be diverted to a new road with a signalised junction that intersects with Braddell Road.

Telemedicine kiosk installed at Jalan Besar

Residents of Jalan Besar can beat the crowd and avoid long waits at the doctor’s by visiting a new neighbourhood “clinic”, which is actually a fully automated self-service machine.

Installed in September at Jalan Besar Stadium, the Charazoi Telemedicine Kiosk is a collaboration between SmartRx, a local pioneer in automatic pharmacy machines, and healthcare group Ninkatec.

The kiosk has a vending machine which sells over-the-counter medicines round the clock and an attached pod where patients can consult doctors and obtain prescription-only medicines.

Covid-19 infections in Singapore more than doubled in Sept 17-23 week

The number of Covid-19 infections here in the week of Sept 17 to 23 was 14,843 – more than double the 6,401 cases recorded in the previous week.

In the previous 10 weeks, between July 9 and Sept 16, the number of infections each week ranged from 3,485 to 7,045.

Singapore no longer requires reporting of Covid-19 cases, so these numbers generally reflect only those who sought medical care.

Money laundering case among world’s largest, with $2.8b assets involved

The assets seized or issued with prohibition of disposal orders following island-wide raids on Aug 15 are now worth more than $2.8 billion, making it one of the world’s largest money laundering cases.

Second Minister for Home Affairs Josephine Teo said this in a ministerial statement on Tuesday to address about 60 parliamentary questions filed on the case.

She said the authorities were alerted in 2021 when they picked up several signals, including the use of suspected forged documents to support sources of funds in bank accounts here.

Open category COE hits $152,000, large car COE reaches another high

The certificate of entitlement (COE) premium for the Open category breached the $150,000 mark at the latest tender exercise on Wednesday to close at a new all-time high of $152,000.

Industry observers said dealers may be trying to accumulate more Open category COEs to register cars in the remaining two months of the year before rebates are cut from 2024, as such certificates are valid for three months and transferrable.

In addition, dealers are racing to meet their year-end sales targets.

The COE premium for larger cars with engines above 1,600cc and 130bhp, or more powerful electric vehicles (EVs) above 110 kilowatts, climbed to $146,002, 3.63 per cent above the previous high of $140,889 set two weeks ago.
